How to resize an image

Image resizing FAQ

How do I resize an image to specific dimensions?

Type the width and height in pixels. With “Keep aspect ratio” on, changing one side updates the other automatically. Turn it off if you need an exact size such as 1200 × 628, knowing the image may be stretched.

Does resizing reduce file size?

Making an image smaller in pixels almost always makes the file smaller too: halving the width and height leaves a quarter of the pixels. For an even smaller file, run the result through the Image Compressor.

Can I make an image bigger?

Yes, turn on “Allow enlarging”. Keep in mind that enlarging can’t add detail that isn’t there, so upscaled images look softer. That’s why it’s off by default.

Will resizing change the image format?

No. A JPG stays a JPG, a PNG stays a PNG and a WebP stays a WebP. JPG and WebP are saved at high quality so resizing doesn’t add visible compression.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser, on your device.

What sizes can I resize to?

Any size from 1 to 16,384 pixels per side, for files up to 25 MB. Very large outputs depend on your device’s memory; iPhones and iPads limit images to about 16.7 megapixels.
