How does PNG compression reduce file size?

PNG itself is lossless, so the biggest savings come from storing fewer colors. The compressor picks the best palette of up to 256 colors for your image, then saves it as an indexed PNG. For screenshots and graphics, the result is often less than half the original size.

Will my PNG lose transparency?

No. Fully transparent and semi-transparent areas are kept, so the image still works on any background.

Which compression level should I choose?

Best quality (256 colors) looks identical for most screenshots, logos and illustrations. Balanced and Smallest save more but can show banding in smooth gradients. Choose Lossless if every pixel must stay exactly the same.

Is PNG or JPG better for photos?

For photos, JPG or WebP usually produce much smaller files. PNG is best for screenshots, text, logos and images that need transparency. You can convert with PNG to JPG or PNG to WebP.

Are my PNG files uploaded?

No. The compression runs in your browser on your device, and the file is never sent to our server.

What is the largest PNG I can compress?
