Is WebP to PNG conversion lossless?

Yes, the PNG keeps exactly the pixels of the WebP. If the WebP was saved with lossy compression, that earlier loss can’t be undone, but nothing further is lost.

Why is the PNG so much larger?

PNG doesn’t discard any detail, so it needs more data than WebP’s compression. If size matters, use the PNG Compressor afterwards to reduce the colors.

Does the PNG keep transparency?

Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent areas are preserved exactly.

Should I choose PNG or JPG?

Choose PNG for graphics, screenshots, images with transparency or files you’ll keep editing. Choose JPG (WebP to JPG) for photos where a smaller file matters more.
